Abby Zimberg

Welcome, what brings you to therapy?

After receiving a MFA in graphic design and photography, I spent many years working on books, publications and promotional materials, including HarperSanFrancisco and the San Francisco Chronicle. As publishing became more web-based and technical, I started to search for a more engaging and meaningful career, talking to people in a variety of professions.

I have always been interested in psychology. Over lunch, an acquaintance who has a MSW read my resume, questioned me about my art, photography and design interests and suggested that I should explore the field of art therapy which would combine my art experience and my interest in psychology. I was immediately intrigued.

From 2010-2013 I studied in the Master’s program at Notre Dame de Namur, a dual program for Marriage and Family Therapy and Art Therapy. I spent intern hours at several elementary schools with kids from substance abuse families. I counseled at an east bay LGBT Community Center. Following that, I met with clients at New Perspectives Counseling Center and Liberation Institute. Both are located in San Francisco, and both offer low-cost therapy. I provide a warm and supportive environment (along with some humor) in which to explore yourself and grow.

I look forward to hearing from you and discussing your therapy needs:
